Visually Impaired Consultant
Project Overview
Client: Cambia Le Regole
Project Type: Website Design & Development
Duration: February – March 2025
Website: www.cambialeregole.com
The Client
Cambia Le Regole (“Change The Rules” in English) is an Italian organisation focused on supporting visually impaired young people and adults (from middle school age to 40 years old), along with their families and partners. Their mission is to help these individuals build fulfilling lives through structured guidance and support.
The organisation was one of two website projects commissioned by Ernest Pozzoni, with the second being “alternates. for startups” – a business development service for startups that would be developed after the completion of the Cambia Le Regole website.
Project Goals
- Create a visually appealing landing page website that effectively communicates the organization’s mission and vision
- Develop a user-friendly interface accessible to visually impaired visitors
- Implement booking functionality for consultations
- Design with Italian language support
- Establish a strong brand identity through professional digitization of the client’s conceptual logo
- Build the site on WordPress with Elementor for easy client updates
The Design Process
Phase 1: Project Initiation & Planning (February 2025)
The project began with initial discussions about scope and requirements. Ernest Pozzoni reached out on February 17, 2025, confirming his interest in developing two landing page websites, with Cambia Le Regole being the priority.
Key specifications from this phase included:
- A one-page landing site design
- WordPress + Elementor implementation
- Hosting via GreenGeeks (client-managed)
- Professional digitisation of conceptual logo
Phase 2: Discovery & Branding (Late February 2025)
Following project kickoff, we entered a comprehensive discovery phase where we gathered detailed requirements:
- Ernest provided access to GreenGeeks hosting on February 20th with credentials for development
- Detailed branding guidelines and content documentation were shared
- Logo concepts were reviewed and finalised, with the client selecting the first design option on February 26th
The client emphasised the importance of using open source resources throughout the development process, aligning with the organization’s values.
Phase 3: Content Structure & Visual Elements (March 2025)
With the branding established, we proceeded to organize the site’s content structure based on the detailed documentation provided by the client. Key sections included:
- Home/Banner
- Mission & Vision
- Letter from the Founder
- Booking System Integration
- Values & Approach
- Methodology
- Target Audience Sections (Young People, Adults, Parents, Couples)
- Partnership Information
- Contact Information
Images played a critical role in the design. The client provided specific images for each section on March 11th, with instructions on cropping and positioning. For the “Let’s Chat” section, two variants were provided to find the perfect fit for the layout.
A new banner was later provided on March 12th to enhance the visual appeal of the homepage.
Phase 4: Development & Refinement (Mid to Late March 2025)
The development phase involved implementing the approved designs using WordPress and Elementor on the GreenGeeks hosting platform. Throughout March, several iterations and refinement requests were addressed, including:
- Text updates and translations (ensuring all content was properly presented in Italian)
- Image sizing and optimisation
- Section reorganisation (creating a new “Metodo” chapter with formatting consistent with “Valori e Approccio”)
- Booking system integration with custom messaging in Italian
- Updates to the “Missione & Visione” section
Final refinements were requested on March 25th, focusing on text corrections, image sizing, and additional booking functionality integration.
Design Challenges & Solutions
Challenge 1: Accessibility for Visually Impaired Users
Given the organisation’s focus on supporting visually impaired individuals, creating an accessible website was paramount. We implemented high-contrast elements, ensured text scaling worked properly, and optimized the site for screen readers.
Challenge 2: Image Optimisation
Several rounds of image adjustments were needed to achieve the right balance between visual impact and performance. The client noted issues with image pixelation in some sections, requiring refinement of image sizes and compression settings.
Challenge 3: Multilingual Content
Ensuring accurate Italian language content throughout the site required careful attention to detail, especially for specialized terminology related to visual impairment support. This included translating all interface elements, such as changing “Book a Slot on My Calendar” to “Prenota uno Spazio sul Mio Calendario.”
Challenge 4: Booking System Integration
Integrating a user-friendly booking system with specific requirements for anonymity options required custom development work to ensure seamless functionality. The client requested specific wording about video disabling options for users who preferred anonymity during consultations.
Technical Implementation

- Facilitates easy appointment booking through an integrated calendar system
- Presents a cohesive visual identity with professional logo design
- Incorporates accessibility features for visually impaired users
- Provides the client with an easily updatable WordPress site
Key Learnings
This project reinforced several important lessons for our team:
- Detailed client communication is essential: The iterative feedback from Ernest was crucial in refining the site to precisely match his vision.
- Accessibility must be a priority: Designing for visually impaired users required us to think differently about contrast, text sizing, and navigation.
- Cultural and language considerations matter: Working on an Italian-language site required careful attention to translation nuances and cultural context.
- Budget-conscious design can still deliver impact: Despite the modest budget of £350, the project delivered a professional and effective online presence.
Conclusion
The Cambia Le Regole website demonstrates how thoughtful design can support an important mission while working within budget constraints. By creating a platform that not only looks professional but also effectively serves its target audience of visually impaired individuals and their support networks, we’ve helped establish a digital presence that will facilitate the organization’s important work for years to come.
The collaborative process with Ernest Pozzoni resulted in a website that effectively balances visual appeal with functional requirements, creating an online home that truly represents the Cambia Le Regole mission to ensure that vision impairment doesn’t limit an individual’s wellbeing or relationships.
This project represents the first of two collaborations with Ernest Pozzoni, with the “alternates. for startups” website planned as a follow-up project upon the successful completion of the Cambia Le Regole website.
